“Wenn man es nicht besser wüsste, könnte man glauben, dass die Mädels von Katzenjammereben erst in bunten Kostümen, die verrückt und sexy zugleich sind, vom Himmel gefallen sind und jetzt einfach mal ein wenig Gute-Laune-Musik machen, nur, weil ihnen gerade schlicht danach ist. Die Musikerinnen haben aber allesamt ihr Handwerk fundiert im Rahmen eines Studiums am Nordischen Institut für Bühne und Studio (NIIS) in Oslo gelernt und was auf der Bühne locker, flockig und herrlich spontan wirkt, ist professionelles Können, leicht verpackt. Aleine Solveig Heilo spielt zehn verschiedene Instrumente und singen können die Damen von Katzenjammer sowieso allesamt.
Der Live-Auftritt von Katzenjammer in Hamburg lässt sich zusammenfassend als sehenswerte Gute-Laune-Show von musikalischen Profis bezeichnen, der Fans von buntem Folk-Rock sicher begeistern dürfte.
Katzenjammer betreiben mit ihrem Bandnamen ganz klar Understatement, denn was die vier sympathischen Vollblutmusikantinnen aus dem hohen Norden bei ihrem Auftritt in der Großen Freiheit 36 präsentierten, hat mit den schiefen Geräuschen von flauschigen Vierbeinern nicht viel zu tun. Im Gegenteil: Die Band versteht es, nicht nur auf CD gut zu klingen, sondern auch live hervorragend zu performen und das treue Publikum zu beigeistern. I don’t know about all the other translations of the word ‘Katzenjammer’, but after watching this DVD I have definitely come up with another one: ‘Love’.
Being at a Katzenjammer gig is a very visceral experience. And it also happens to be very addictive. I think I have finally figured out why. Well, for me. Whether you’re single or a couple, whether you’re happy or sad, these four women will love you regardless: give you a kiss before you go, rock you, lullaby you, woo you, voodoo you, dazzle you – you will be swept off your feet, brought to your knees, but most importantly – they will share their heart, mind and soul with you, welcome you in this magical world of love, vision and rock-n-roll, where everything else ceases to exist. It has to be experienced to be believed, really. Watching this concert, I’ve remembered my first ever Katzenjammer gig, after which I wrote on the band’s Facebook wall that I’ve had the greatest musical orgasm ever. Because they hit all your senses – audio, visual, tactile – there’s not a single cell in your being which stays unaffected. And you feel completely wasted and happy afterwards.
Of course, it’s a recording and not a live concert, but it gives you a pretty good feeling of what it is like to be at the real gig and MORE! Now that I’ve been to several Katzenjammer concerts, I can definitely say that the greatest bonus of this DVD is that you get a pretty good idea what it’s like to be on stage with Katzenjammer – how hard they work and how much they love their art and give it their all. The slow motion inserts are also priceless – they add momentum to the show – in these moments, which are stretched into several seconds, you actually get a chance to reflect and appreciate how much show’woman’ship :-), skill and professionalism there is behind what seems to be such effortless fun and entertainment. You also get the camera angles from the instruments’ point of view, which, again, can never be witnessed at a live gig.
I will leave the rest to your ears and imagination. When I finished watching this DVD, I wrote on my Facebook wall: ‘If I were a Rockefeller, I would make sure that every person on the face of this earth would have a copy of this… LOVE’. Because that’s what Katzenjammer are. Apart from being fantastic musicians and an absolutely unique band, they are Love.
